EPHC Offers Local Rehab Services

May 12, 2011

When Ramona Feiman fell and broke her hip, she spent a week in the hospital in Truckee. Because she was determined to heal close to home, in Loyalton, she asked that she be transferred back to Eastern Plumas Health Care’s Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) there. Feiman is one of the few patients in recent months who has been transferred back to her local EPHC facility, near family and friends, while undergoing rehabilitation. In many cases, EPHC’s two Skilled Nursing Facilities (the other one is in Portola) aren’t on the list of patient choices at larger urban hospitals, so only those who are aware that EPHC offers rehabilitation care and those who are adamant in that choice have been returning here.

It just makes sense, however, to receive this longer term rehabilitation and physical therapy close to home, where patients can have their healing process augmented by the presence of those who care about them most. EPHC has begun to let patients know that they do have a choice, and they can choose to return to their local EPHC rehabilitation center/SNF.

Feiman can’t say enough good about the Loyalton SNF. “I spent six weeks there and got excellent care,” she said. “It’s like a different world there from every day life. Everybody should have that experience . . . therapy was excellent and the nurses’ care was excellent. It’s very relaxed, and they have a dog therapist, Cider. She was a big help. We got to be pretty good friends. I couldn’t have been in a better place.”

Feiman even had great things to say about the food and the cleanliness of the facility. “They’re very clean—always wiping, disinfecting, cleaning—very thorough.” Finally, she mentioned that her daughter, Rhonda, her granddaughter, grandson, and other family members visited her often, which also helped in her recovery.
