Emergency Services

Emergency Services are key in a rural area. Eastern Plumas Hospital’s 24 hour Emergency Room is staffed primarily by board certified emergency physicians, in turn supported by ER certified nursing staff and paramedics on a full time basis.

Our emergency medical technicians (EMT’s) are often the first line of care, working closely with the fire department to ensure immediate response.

The ambulances are all equipped with advanced life support systems, and our new 4-wheel drive vehicle is ideal for handling inclement weather and rough terrain. State of the art 12 lead EKG telemetry provides direct communication with the hospital, allowing the on site physician to diagnose and initiate care even before the patient arrives. Our paramedic teams are thoroughly trained, highly experienced, and act under physician supervision at all times.

In the event of serious trauma or intensive care, the patient may be airlifted to Washoe Medical Center via CareFlight, an Emergency Medical Transport Service with nearby bases in Reno and Truckee. Eastern Plumas is also a participant in the Washoe Health Systems Regional Stroke Management Program.

Surgery & Acute Care

Plumas County’s unique quality of life attracts uniquely qualified physicians. Our acute care and surgery units reflect this. Eastern Plumas Hospital has nine beds available, state of the art equipment, and staff that are fully board certified. We also maintain low patient to nurse ratios so that our nurses can give higher levels of care and attention to individual patients. Our remarkable array of capabilities include:

Eastern Plumas Hospital offers cardiac monitoring, monitored cardiac beds, and even pacemaker insertions. We are connected to leading cardiology centers all around the country. Our head cardiologist is unique in terms of the attention he provides and the comprehensive array of services he performs on a regular basis. He will handle the majority of your procedures personally- and for any procedure done elsewhere, he will accompany you on the trip to ensure a high level of comfort and care. You won’t find this combination of training and caring anywhere else.
