There are many counties in the state of California that you would expect to see the most money budgeted, grants generously donated and dedicated for the care of the elderly needing assistance. We have had many elderly friends and relatives that have had to rely on such facilities in Marin and alameda counties. Of those, none even came close to the unrivaled quality care we have here in Portola.

Earth Day is Every Day April 24, 2015
Eastern Plumas Health Care has joined forces once again with Portola Jr./Sr. High School in an effort to help not just the local community, but the global one as well. On Earth Day, April 22, 2015, members of the high school Leadership Class (from left Tabi Martinez, Hope Gallup, and Jocelyn Bates), principal Sara Sheridan, and EPHC’s Alanna Collier-Wilson and Linda Satchwell, joined together to begin a joint recycling program. Emergency teams unite for April 9 disaster drill April 13, 2015
Eastern Plumas Health Care has scheduled live emergency evacuation drills at its skilled nursing facilities in Portola and Loyalton from 2:00 – 3:00 pm April 9.
The California Department of Health requires EPHC to have at least two disaster drills each year – one live and one tabletop exercise. Given the severity of the brutal storm that ripped through northern California last February, officials opted to go live twice in 2015.
EPHC’s Regina Martinez said this is the first time the hospital has taken the lead on organizing such an event by itself.

Diabetic Retinopathy Program Saves Sight February 20, 2015
Eastern Plumas Health Care has worked hard to get its Diabetic Retinopathy Screening program up and running. Last month, Dr. Harry Green of UC Berkeley’s School of Optometry, made the nine hour round trip from Berkeley to train four EPHC employees to take the photos that are central to a quality digital retinopathy screening program. Now, both Christina Potter, FNP, and Nicole Tuccori, MA, have received their Certification through Berkeley’s EyePACS (Eye Picture Communication System) program to begin screening Plumas County’s diabetic patients. A Circle of Caring February 2, 2015
“EPHC Gives Back,” which began as an idea by a several EPHC employees to create a group that would give back to the community it serves, received a big boost when one EPHC Gives Back member attended an informal dinner this past October. EPHC’s Telemedicine Program Ranks 4th in State January 7, 2015
EPHC secured the fourth spot out of 800 rural healthcare telemedicine clinics statewide. Hospital officials say they’re excited about the ranking, and plan to up that already high standard in the future.
“My goal for next year is to be in the top three,” said Erica Waldeck, EPHC telemedicine coordinator. “But, fourth is pretty good and I’ll take it.”
Telemedicine is the use of video, email, telephone, or other telecommunication systems to transmit clinical consultations between a doctor and patient. This gives physicians easier access to rural patients and their health data.
