EPHC SNF Receives Kudos in Letter to the Editor

June 11, 2015

Below is a Feather Publishing (Portola Reporter) Letter to the Editor from local resident Jan Tew. She was instrumental in our fight against the SNF cuts several years ago:
There are many counties in the state of California that you would expect to see the most money budgeted, grants generously donated and dedicated for the care of the elderly needing assistance. We have had many elderly friends and relatives that have had to rely on such facilities in Marin and alameda counties. Of those, none even came close to the unrivaled quality care we have here in Portola.
Eastern Plumas Health Care skilled Nursing Facility is clean and provides excellent care for those who can no longer care for themselves at home. This talented group of professionals has created an atmosphere of compassion, respect and dignity. The genuine sensitivity and commitment of the staff reflects toward how each and every resident is cared for.
Although each family needs to advocate for their loved one, we can feel confident knowing that the very best care is coming their way daily. The family members of residents are treated kindly and kept informed to any changes that may be occurring. Residents are regularly provided entertainment and the opportunity to go on outings.
When our facility came so close to closing due to budget cuts in Nov. of 2011, we all tried to work hard to preserve this valuable local asset. Knowing that we depend on this service as our population ages, we should all be trying to utilize the many services offered at EPHC campus; the clinic, special promotional testing, labs etc. so that, financially, they can remain open.
I would like to extend my gratitude and sincere appreciation to the people of EPHC SNF for doing their jobs so well.
